Julio Barreto


Partner of Palma Guedes Advogados for the corporate and contracts areas, Julio Barreto has initiated his career in Jorge Lobo Advogados and worked in Xavier, Bernardes, Bragança – Advogados and Veirano Advogados before joining the team of Palma Guedes Advogados.

With wide experience in all fields of the commercial law, especially in corporate law and commercial agreements, Julio Barreto assisted major companies in some of the most notorious corporate disputes in Brazil and in large scale projects, whether for the formation of joint ventures or negotiation of mergers and acquisition transactions or asset purchase agreements. Julio Barreto has assisted clients in financing agreements before Brazilian or foreign financial institutions and development banks. His experience encompasses also the legal assistance to clients involved in insolvency or judicial reorganization procedures, mainly in connection with the drafting, negotiation and implementation of insolvency or reorganization plans.

Julio Barreto has taught commercial law at the graduation programs of the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ) and at the post-graduation programs of the Candido Mendes University and the UERJ. He holds a Master of Laws from UERJ and earned his Bachelor of Laws from the same university. He has also completed postgraduation program of Law and Economy of Fundação Getúlio Vargas – FGV. Julio Barreto has been a member of the Executive Committee of Revista Semestral de Direito Empresarial. He is the author of the book “O Conflito de Interesses entre a Companhia e seus Administradores” (The Conflict of Interests between the Company and its Administrators) (Renovar, 2009), the co-author of the book “Temas de Direito Civil-Empresarial” (Civil-Commercial Law Issues) (Renovar, 2008) and has several papers published covering different subjects of Commercial Law.
